The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth – Law 1 – The Law of Intentionality

Currently I am facilitating a Master Mind Session on “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth” by John Maxwell. This is one of the best books on Personal Growth.

I am going to blog about 2 Laws every single week. This is the information as read and understood by me. Hopefully it would help the readers. I would recommend everyone to get a book and study it thoroughly. The journey to your personal growth would be amazing.

LAW 1 – The Law of Intentionality – Growth Doesn’t Just Happen

Do you have a Plan to Grow?

Even if you are intentional about working, reaching your goals, and being successful and working hard, you may hope to get what you want, but working hard doesn’t guarantee success and hope is not a strategy.

“People are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves; they there-ore remain bound” – James Allen in As a Man Thinketh

Growth Gap Traps

  • The Assumption Gap – I assume I will automatically grow

“A time comes when you need to stop waiting for the man you want to become and start being the man you want to be” – Bruce Springsteen

  • The Knowledge Gap – I don’t know how to grow

Many people learn only from the school of hard knocks. It’s much better to plan your growth intentionally. Once you plan your growth you well start to see growth opportunities everywhere. Your world will expand.

  • The Timing Gap – It’s not the right time to grow

Most people don’t act as quickly as they should on things.

Law of Diminishing Intent – The longer you wait to do something you should do now, the greater the odds that you will never actually do it.

“Life lived for tomorrow will always be a day away from being realized.” – Leo Buscaglia

Go ahead and do it before you are ready.

  • The Mistake Gap – I am afraid of growing

“What would you attempt to do if you knew you wouldn’t fail?” – Robert H. Schuller

If you want to grow, you need to get over any fear you may have of making mistakes.

  • The Perfection Gap – I have to find the best way before I can start growing

You have to get started if you want to find the best way. As you move forward, a little more road is revealed to you. You see it progressively. If you want to see more of the way, then get moving.

  • The Inspiration Gap – I don’t feel like growing

Forget motivation. Just Do it. After you start doing the thing, that’s when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.

“You are more likely to act yourself into feeling than feel yourself into action” – Jerome Bruner

The reasons to keep growing far outweigh the reasons to start growing. You discover the reasons to stay with growth only if you stick with it long enough to start reaping the benefits.

  • The Comparison Gap – Others are better than I am

Learn to be uncomfortable with being out of your comfort zone. Great men are willing to share their ideas. You can learn only if others are ahead of you.

  • The Expectation Gap – I thought it would be easier than this

You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight – Jim Rohn

Preparation (Growth + Attitude + Opportunity + Action (doing something) = LUCK

MAKING THE TRANSITION TO INTENTIONAL GROWTH

Face the Fear Factor

  • Fear of Failure
  • Fear of being overextended financially
